![]() You will know when a smoker is around thanks to the hacking, wheezing and coughing which they do while alive. Smokers tend to approach parties of Survivors from behind, trying to grab at any who are lagging behind the others. Make sure to listen for the screeching of a violin. A well-timed M2 will deadstop them, ending the pounce and leaving them paralyzed for a few moments, during which killing them off is as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. Stopping Hunters is easy enough, as long as the player sees them before they make their attack. They are the only Special Infected that really “growl” at the Survivors, which is a dead giveaway as to what’s waiting around the next corner. They have a characteristic shrill, shrieking sound which is especially audible when they are crouching or jumping. They can leap great distances and deal up to 25 damage in an instant by pouncing on a Survivor from a high vantage point.
